  1. I really liked this movie, too. What I thought was most amazing about it was that, at the end, even though we know what a complete bastard Trintignant’s character is, we still somehow have some sympathy left for him. I’m not sure if the credit for this against-the-odds achievement should go to Bertolucci or Trintignant.

    • Oh, I think that’s the way the text wrapped around the image. But that’s an interesting insight about Trintignant. Because he is a pretty pathetic individual in the end, but somehow the performance leaves us with a shred of sympathy for him.
